October 2004
Vol F04 Special Edition
You are invited to attend a unique wine-tasting experience:

A Nipa Hut in the Vineyard: Wines by Filipino-Americans

WHAT:
“A Nipa Hut in the Vineyard: Wines by Filipino-Americans”
-- a wine-tasting event showcasing premiere wines from wineries and vineyards owned and managed by Filipino-Americans.

Attendees will taste flights of California and Oregon wines paired with Filipino foods. Featured wines include pairings from Eden Canyon Vineyards, Silver Oak Cellars, Austin Robaire Vintners, and more. Winemaker Elaine Villamin will discuss the different personalities of each wine and the pairings.

WHY:
The number of Filipino-owned wineries is increasing. Working for years as farmers or cellar masters, Filipinos have long been rooted in the wine industry and have now established their own wineries and vineyards. Intended to be fun and informative, Elaine will discuss stories behind the wine and the Filipino-Americans who made them.

WHO:
A joint effort between U.C. Berkeley's Pilipino American Alumni Chapter and Eden Canyon Vineyards

WHERE:
UC Berkeley's Alumni House
1 Alumni House
Berkeley, CA 94720

PAAC: Sign Up to Be a CAA Student Mentor !
Students at last semesters SAMP social
The Student Alumni Mentorship Program (SAMP) is one of many mentoring programs at UC Berkeley. This one is unique in that it connects any Cal student with UC Berkeley alumni in one-on-one mentoring relationships that offer support, advice and networking opportunities.
Even if you live out-of-state, you can be a mentor. In fact, you are further encouraged because some students look to eventually re-locate. As a mentor, you'll be doing more via email and phone. In past experiences, a pair faxed for 4 years and never met. Others had monthly phone call check-ins. You two will decide how you connect to get your mentee ahead.   To register as a mentor today, complete a brief profile at: [ CAA mentorship website ]
